Moments For Us
There is an entire industry built to introduce you to strangers. There is almost nothing built for the friend you would call close and have not seen in seven months.
Most of us are not short of contacts. We are short of reasons — an evening with a shape to it, a morning that reliably happens, something to actually do with the people who already matter.
So the plan gets made and unmade. We should get together becomes a sentence people say instead of a thing people do, and a friendship quietly becomes an address book entry.
Moments For Us designs the occasion, hands it to whoever is willing to host it, and gets out of the way.
How a Moment is built
Hand your phone to the person across from you. If my son calls, tell me. Ignore everything else. Who do you want me to watch for? Nobody announces a rule. The interruption becomes a shared decision, and in ninety seconds you have each said who matters most.
One question, object or task that neither of you can answer from a script. Not what is your favourite memory. Something that requires you to look at each other. This is the whole craft, and it is the part that is hard to invent at the table.
A written line, an object, a photograph taken on purpose, a promise with a date on it. An evening without a Keep is gone by Thursday. This is the move that turns a good night into a changed relationship.
Platonic first. The romantic relationship already has a century of infrastructure behind it. Friendship has a greeting-card aisle.
Parents and their grown children. Long partnerships that went administrative. Friend groups that scattered across three cities. Grandparents and grandchildren who have never had a conversation without an adult in the middle of it. The people you would show up for, if someone would just name the night.
